Life and Beauty Through Light

Beauty is an abstract concept linked to human existence from the beginning of time. It is always linked to the eye of an observer regardless of whether it’s being studied for the purpose of aesthetics or solely as a philosophical discipline. Beauty always evokes an emotional state; a sense of pleasure and a feeling of satisfaction. Any human activity can evoke or produce “beauty; artists, poets, musicians, philosophers, and even the great mystics of humanity have offered beauty to their peers. It was Saint Thomas of Aquinas who defined beauty as something that’s pleasing to the eye.

Applying the concept of beauty to humanity means that we have to delve into the dimensions of both outer beauty and inner beauty. Inner beauty refers to psychological concepts, like personality, intelligence, grace, integrity and elegance. Outer beauty will always be directly related to certain attributes such as health, symmetry and sensuality.

Successful Surgery of Elbow

Mr. Pilon On March 10, 2011, in the fi rst operation of its kind in the region, Puerto Vallarta orthopaedic surgeon Luis Villanueva of CMQ Premier hospital successfully performed a procedure to implant a prosthetic elbow. The patient, Canadian Joseph Pilon, was suffering from a condition called a “fused elbow”, and had not had any mobility since 2006.

After exhausting medical alternatives in his home country, on the advice of a friend, Pilon contacted Dr. Villanueva earlier this year to discuss treatments for his fused elbow, the result of injuries sustained in a 2006 car accident and the follow-up surgeries.

Surgical elbow fusion is a procedure that permanently stabilizes the elbow after severe trauma, resulting in total loss of mobility.

When visitor Robert Clelland was suddenly hospitalized in March 2011 for an undiagnosed case of ischemic cardiomyopathy, a coronary artery disease, he and his wife decided that instead of risking the time and travel stress of flying home to Canada, he would undergo an emergency coronary bypass in Puerto Vallarta. The procedure, the first of its kind at Premier Hospital CMQ, involved seven medical personnel and took over seven hours. Today, Robert Clelland is recovering.
